This very first M3 is based on the E30 3-series of 1986. The first generation had a 2.3l BMW S14 engine with 200 hp. The main reason for the production of the M3 was to compete with the Mercedes-Benz W201. A remarkable feature of the M3 E30 is its racing background, not only with BMW itself, but also with racing teams such as Prodive and Schnitzer Motosport.
